I must begin by saying that my little angel happily endured an entire day in Logan with Weldon and I. We went shopping and then lunch. Then we went to the theatre and watched "Tangled". She loved it and we loved it. It was a lot of fun!
Weldon had been craving the dark chocolate peppermint ice cream at Cold Stone all year. They finally have it for Christmas, so after the movie we decided to go to Cold Stone and Get some. Jade was so excited. She loves ice cream and was going crazy when she was the rainbow of colors through the big ice cream window.
I bent down and asked her what kind she wanted. She pointed right to it and said " I want pink ice cream." So I told Weldon to get his dark chocolate and I would share the pink ice cream with Jade. Well, some how Weldon talked me into getting the chocolate ice cream instead. I didn't really see anything wrong with this because she was going to forget about the pink ice cream by the time we got to the table anyway, right? Wrong!!
We sat down to the table and Jade was bouncing up and down in her seat in excitement. She looks around and says, "Pink ice cream? I want pink ice cream!" Weldon and I looked at each other, down at our chocolate ice cream, over at the huge line that had just formed at the counter and then back at each other. "Oh crap, Weldon, why did you talk me into getting chocolate? Now what are we going to do. I feel bad because I let her choose one and then for some reason I blew it off and got what I wanted."
All the while Jade is getting louder and louder and by this time everyone in line has seen this display of bad parenting, and are all staring us down. We both felt like we were in a glass pressure cooker.
So, Weldon got back in line because, come on, that was really mean of me. Jade got in line with him and was just dancing all around and whining for the pink ice cream.
I was sitting at the table waiting for the explosion thinking, " cool guys won't be able to walk away from this explosion." I was preparing myself to take her out to the car, when these two very sweet girls offered to let Jade go ahead. I had to take the offer. So I told them thank you and that they were very sweet. The girl said "It's okay, I understand we all have bad days." In my mind I was thinking " This is not the result of a bad day, this is the result of a mean mommy."
Jade FINALLY got her pink ice cream and sat at the table and quickly took one bite. And then, she spit it right back out!! " Oh my heck Jade you have got to be kidding me! That is naughty. Daddy just stood in line and got that for you and you need to eat it." Weldon just kept rolling his eyes and Jade took her spoon and started digging into Weldon's ice cream. Yes, the one she wouldn't have anything to do with 5 minutes earlier. It was maddening and embarrassing to say the least because of course those 2 sweet girls saw this scene play out. Weldon and I just kept looking at each other with our lips pursed and shaking our heads.
Then, Weldon and I both took a bite. " Ew, this is gross." I said. Weldon said, " Yeah, it really is." Oh, brother. " Well, I guess I can't blame her for spitting it out." So, we finished our delicious dark chocolate peppermint ice cream, quickly cleaned up and busted out the door with our heads down. " We'll never do that again, Weldon." "No, that was ridiculous."
Needless to say, this was not our best parenting moment.
