A Crazy Miracle

This is our boiler. I'm sure everyone knows these things could become dangerous. 2 days ago we found out just how dangerous ours really was.
It all started 8 months ago when we first turned it on. We are using a propane tank out here. We don't have the luxury of Natural Gas. To make a really long story short, last month, we were beginning to realize that we are not affording the propane bills well at all. The whole reason we chose this system was because of it's claimed efficiency.
We got our receipts out and discovered that we had spent 3,500 dollars on propane in less than 9 months! To make it even more crazy, we haven't turned on our heat, because we have a wood stove that we use. So this is all for hot water and about 3 months of heat being used in our mother-in-law apartment (900 square feet). Yes, that equals out to nearly 400 dollars a month for hot water and a small amount of heat! We were getting really scared.
We talked to my dad and brother about this and they both said that there must be something wrong with the system, that cannot be right. So we called the plumber who installed it and he said he would come the next morning. Well, not surprisingly, a week and a half passed and he never called or came. We finally got a hold of a plumber who was willing to help. He came and looked it over and told us that the boiler that was installed was for Natural Gas. That's why it was sucking 4 times more propane than it should have. We suspected that's what it might be, and were a little relieved that it was easy to figure out. A couple hours later he called and said he had looked things up and found out that it was very dangerous and we need to turn the system off right now!
I was so sick inside when Weldon told me this. We had a REALLY big mess on our hands. And on top of that, why were we still alive and why hadn't our house blown up or burnt down months ago? I immediately realized that we had been watched over and protected and was so grateful. We actually got a hold of the original plumber and he apologized and came and had a new propane boiler installed the next day (yesterday). We told him how much money we had wasted and he said he would make it right. I'm not so sure that will really happen, but we could really use that money.... like for our upcoming adoption? Needless to say, Weldon and I both feel a lot better today. And I am still amazed that nothing happened to us or the house.
It's just been one of those times where when it rains, it pours and everything is going wrong. And, I don't think this time of storm is over yet, but I have a feeling it will be soon. Weldon and I have had enough of these up and down times together now to know that after the down, there's always an up just around the corner! Like my dad said the other day. Life is just like the weather. You can't really predict it, and it's always changing. There are calm times and there are storms. He is absolutely right!
